Grand Canyon

On the trip up to the Grand Canyon we stopped in Palm Springs, Phoenix and Flagstaff. As all the accommodation in the Grand Canyon itself was full we used Flagstaff as a base, and the drive between them was about an hour so it wasn't too bad anyway. Flagstaff itself was nothing special and seemed to be a stop off point for people travelling to or from the Grand Canyon. The following morning we jumped in our Dodge and headed for the Grand Canyon. We were booked on a helicopter flight over the canyon at 13.30 so set out on one of the shorter walks around the south rim. The views were amazing and we could now see what people meant by the size of his place. You really can’t appreciate how big it is from pictures! In the afternoon the winds picked up to over 40mph and our helicopter trip was cancelled. Although we had only planned to do one day at the Grand Canyon we could not leave without taking this ride as we had been told how good it was. So the following day we headed back. There was very little wind so we had a reasonably smooth trip, although I’m sure the French kid in the back who was sick would not have agreed - nice..!! The Helicopter ride only lasted 30 mins and only about 15 mins of this was actually spent over the Grand Canyon itself. It was worth it though and was definitely something we will not forget. After finishing the things we wanted to see here we headed into Zion National Park. We weren’t expecting much of this place after we had been spoilt with the views of the Grand Canyon but we were both pleasantly surprised. This park was truly stunning with lots of amazing views and walks.

After spending half a day exploring some of the walks in Zion national Park we headed on down to Las Vegas.
